Cartwright is the largest community on the southern coast of Labrador with a population of 650.  It boasts some of the most beautiful coastal areas on the southern coast of Labrador. Established in 1770 by Captain George Cartwright of England, Cartwright has a history as a prosperous fur trapping location. Located just 13km north of Cartwright are the Wonderstrands, a stunning 56km stretch of coastline that is like no other.  The line of sand glints in the sunshine from a long way offshore. The length is, indeed, wondrous on this famously rocky-bound coast; it sweeps in a long, graceful manner similar to the rugged peninsula of Cape Porcupine.
